Hello all, and welcome back to my blog.

January 2011 and winter has taken a hold. The last few days saw our first really cold days of the winter. A trip to the boatyard confirms that all is well so far this winter. I am always concerned about stowaways as I had a problem a couple of years ago with a family of pigeons. They were very messy with their droppings and nest building. I removed the nest, found and closed the access they had to the boat, and left the boat till spring.

Once spring arrived and the boat was uncovered, I began the arduous task of cleaning the droppings from the deck. If you look closely, you can still see the faded spots where the droppings bleached the color. Since then, I always make an effort to ensure my boat is well covered and there are no openings. I was very lucky that year that the hatches were closed or we might have had a bigger problem with droppings throughout the cabin.

In a few weeks will be the highlight of the winter boating season with the Halifax International Boat Show. It is great to get out and see all the shiny new stuff. I always manage to see my friends, old and new, checking out the show.
